The scope of duties and responsibilities of the Fire and Rescue Department is seen to be expanding every day and requires its personnel to always be prepared to overcome any type of obstacles and challenges. Besides putting out, preventing and controlling fires, the duties and responsibilities of the Fire and Rescue Department include saving lives and property whether the incident is at a domestic or industrial scale. The Minister of Home Affairs stated the matter during the Parade Ceremony in conjunction with 64th Anniversary of the Fire and Rescue Department 2024 at the Parade Field, Fire and Rescue Department Headquarters, Berakas. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman said looking at the breadth of duties carried out by the fire brigade, it can be seen that expertise in certain fields is required. While expertise in rescue requires skilled firemen in terms of diving, search and rescue, investigation and analysis of information obtained after any incident.

 

The Minister of Home Affairs in his speech said that the Fire and Rescue Department is currently in the process of updating the training programme to upgrade the capabilities of its personnel based on the provided competency framework. The department must always ensure that every officer and personnel is provided the appropriate skills needed according to the respective specialisation that enables them to carry out their duties efficiently and with efficacy. The department must also ensure that every personnel has the opportunity to enhance their skills.

 

The event included a Parade of Honour and performance by the Fire and Rescue Department band, field performance and presentation of Life Saver Course 995 certificates.
